Biography

Georges-Emmanuel Arnaud is a multidisciplinary artist and cultural operator based in Martinique. His path is non-academic but deeply rooted in fieldwork, developed over the years at the interface of artistic creation, digital technologies and transmission. He works from the Martinican territory, which he considers at once a place to live, a space for research and a ground for experimentation.

Trained in photography, image and visual sciences, he began his career in publishing (Delpire), photography and post-production (Sarah Moon, Dior, Chanel, Armani), then gradually turned to long-term projects on memory, representation and heritage (ANISOTROPIE, CARIALITY Studio). This shift took place in contact with the Caribbean territory, its landscapes, architecture, stories and cultural practices, often little documented but always alive.

His work takes a transversal approach to heritage, understood as a set of material and immaterial forms in constant transformation. He is as interested in places, archaeological artefacts (Caribbean Archaeology) and architectural traces as in gestures, bodies, music, dances and oral narratives (Séquences Éphémères). Digital tools (photography, video, 3D, photogrammetry, scanning, motion capture, XR, video games) are not ends in themselves but means to observe, document, transmit and reactivate these heritages.

Based in Martinique, he develops and runs an ecosystem of artists, students, cultural institutions, heritage services and external partners. Through creation, mediation, training and residency projects (150 m d'altitude), he explores alternative forms of cultural production and transmission suited to island, overseas and postcolonial realities (SOLIBO Studio, Mocap Week, Open Learning Lab). That context frames his work; it does not define it.

His commitment rests on a situated practice, attentive to uses, constraints and local resources. He favours a logic of “making in order to understand”, where artistic experimentation becomes a tool of analysis and fieldwork often precedes theoretical formalisation. In 2025 he joined the cohort of invited curators of Montréal Connect; in 2026 he spoke at the Arctic Arts Summit in Umeå, and on panels on digital creation and sovereignty (MTL connecte) and on First Nations and digital creation (NAD).
